Our Story
Most "Colombian" coffee isn't roasted in Colombia
It's shipped green, sits in a warehouse, and gets roasted months later in a plant in the U.S. or Europe. By the time it reaches you, the farm is just a line on the bag.
TIPIKOS works the other way around.
Caicedo, Antioquia
Our coffee comes from small producer associations in the mountains around Caicedo, grown between 1,950 and 2,100 meters.
These communities did something unusual: they built their own collection centers and their own quality labs. That let them stop selling at the fixed government price and start selling specialty coffee directly to the world - for what it's actually worth.
We buy from them. Not from a broker. Not from a warehouse.
Roasted at origin
Washed, dried, and roasted in Colombia, in small batches, and shipped from there.
That's why it tastes the way the roaster intended. The cup you make at home is close to the cup that was scored in the lab - not a version that spent three months in a container.
Nothing under 84
Every lot is cupped and scored before we bring it in. Below 84 on the SCA scale, it doesn't go in a TIPIKOS bag.
Current lot - Caicedo 2207
- SCA score: 84.25
- Uniformity 10 Clean cup 10 Sweetness 10
- Zero defects
- Milk chocolate, honey sweetness, yellow fruit, a little vanilla
For reference: supermarket coffee isn't cupped at all.
What you're paying for
Paying properly at origin is the whole point. The associations in Caicedo built what they built so they wouldn't have to sell cheap. Our price reflects that - theirs and ours.
It's also why shipping is free on every order, no minimum. We'd rather put the money in the coffee than in a shipping line.
